About social media… everyone’s so addicted to their social media (including me)!
I’ve watched a Netflix series called “Black Mirror” and so far 2 of the episodes were about the power and influence of social media in your life.
It was a bit exaggerated but it seemed to me the point wasn’t to be taken literally but to be honest, it’s quite close!
It got me thinking of just how close.
Obviously we post the best of us… we post the “interesting” stuff… travels, nights outs, lots of smiles, we want to show every outfit, blah blah blah.. and don’t say it’s not true… for girls at least.
We become more popular because of it.
And I dare saying some people respect themselves more depending on how many likes and followers they have.
They post thinking of how many likes they will get.
So they need to post “juicy” stuff… showing yourself is a super go to get those likes…
Again, I don’t exempt myself from posting a lot but I do refrain from showing my body (maybe if I had a better one 😜)…
I post more than pictures of me. It was a conscious decision.
This is the thing with social media: you can use it to share yourself and your amazing super lifestyle (slightly ironic tone here) or you can use it to share your thoughts and ideas. Or both.
It gives you a voice to the world.
We can create our own posts…
You can create your own original content! In a copycat world!
And no, no one will show their meltdowns, their cries, their financial issues, work crisis, etc.
And good for that! At least some things remain private…
I wish though we could separate the respect we earn as real person in the world vs the respect we think we earn by the amount of likes and followers in a virtual world.
It is still a virtual world.
It is still an illusion of beauty and perfection.
Don’t be pressured by it.
Have the courage to post without thinking of how many likes.
Have the courage to speak your truth just because it’s your original YOU.
Respect everyone and respect yourself.
Freedom of speech still doesn’t allow you to be rude or insulting… old school rules!
